We all know that sunglasses protect your eyes and help you see clear. This is particularly true in places where you have a bright sun. Sunglasses are not only for your eye’s health and protection, but they can also work to set off your killer features as well. It can give you that additional X factor you are looking for. Problem is there are so many frames nowadays. How do you know which frame(s) are the right one for you? Which one will bring out that X factor?
According to Sunglasses Warehouse (and many other experts), you’ll need to figure out first whether your face is round, oval, heart, or square.
How do you know this? Well there are certainly many different charts around to help you define your shape, but we found a chart from Sunglasses Warehouse in particular, to be very helpful and clear.
Step 1
Take a photo of yourself directly facing the camera and use a piece of tracing paper to outline the edge of your face to work out your face shape. If you don’t have a camera see the chart below for another option.
Finally if you still unsure about your face shape, ask someone working at a glasses store or makeup counter, they should be trained to tell you what your face shape is.
Step 2
Once you know your face shape it is time for you to know which frames goes better with it. The frames we paired with the face shapes are based on research done on various articles and posts. As a plus we have given you the links to buy the sunglasses as well. So here we go.
Heart shape
If you have a heart-shaped face, like Halle Berry, Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Aniston or Eva Longoria you would like to mimic your face shape. According to a Allure.com post (The Best Sunglasses for Every Face Shape) proportion is important here: “If you have small, delicate features, don’t choose large, heavy frames,” says Brown. “If you have more dramatic features, you can choose larger frames.”
Styles that work: Retro square, cat eye, exaggerated bottoms, rectangular, aviators, sport
Round shape
If you have a round-shaped face, like Charlize Theron, Queen Latifah, Adele or Tatyana Ali you should select frames that are the opposite of your face shape to add the extra definition. Kristie Whitford, spokesperson for the Vision Council, an organization that represents manufacturers and suppliers in the optical industry said “You want to counteract the fullness of the face,”
Styles that work: Retro square, sharp cat eye, square
Oval Shape
If you have a oval-shaped face, like Eva Mendes’, Oprah Winfrey, Jessica Alba or Rihanna you are at luck. You can wear just about any frame shape and look good.
Styles that work: Circular, retro square, aviator, oversized, round
Square shape
If you have a square-shaped face, like Mo’Nique, Leighton Meester, Rosario Dawson or Natalie Portman you should soften your strong square face shape with curvier or rounded frames. The objective is to soften the strong jawline and offset the sharper features.
Styles that work: Aviators, butterfly, round, shield, cat eye
