Pumps

Also known as simply high heels, pumps are usually wider and between 2 and 3 inches in height. They're typically low cut around the front.

Stilletos

The highest of all the high heels, stilettos can reach up to 8 inches. While these heights can cause problems walking for many, it's a worthy skill for the lengthening effect they have on one's legs. Note: many stilettos are also platforms due to the height (see below for platforms).

Wedges

There are two different types of wedge shoes: wedge heels and wedge sandals. Wedge heels are flush just like a high heel would be, and there is no separation from the heel to the sole.

Block Heels
A thick, sturdy heel on a shoe, often square- or rectangular-shaped.
Sandals

An exposed shoe style that includes an open toe and open back. Slips on and is held in place with leather or fabric straps across the foot.

Flats

Shoes that do not have any heel height.

Sneakers

A rubber-soled casual shoe made of soft, often man-made, materials, and used often for casual wear and sporting events.

Mules

A shoe or sandal characterized by a closed, or nearly closed, toe and a backless heel of any height.

Platform

A high heel shoe with a thick sole under the front part of the foot.

Boots

A type of shoe that covers the whole foot and extends anywhere from right above the ankle bone all the way up to the thigh; boots can be casual, dressy, or practical.

Booties

A shoe that resembles a very short ankle boot.

Peep Toe
A shoe with a narrow opening in the front that exposes the toes.
