Summer 2016 top trends for the common women

When you talk about fashion or trends you must not only refer to the models strutting the major catwalks of the world. What you see there are bodies that are way to skinny and even unhealthy. Outside the catwalk you see normal/common women who work, study or take care of their children. Having a few extra pound is not a sin. You can still look attractive and beautiful as long as you have style. Oscar de la Renta said this very nicely “Fashion is about dressing according to what’s fashionable. Style is more about being yourself.”. You need to have style, you need to have the confidence to create style. We were all born with style, but somehow we lost it in the process of growing up.  We need to dig deep within ourselves to find the confidence to bring it back up.

A research in the United States concluded that the “average” American women now wears a size 14 (with “plus-sizes”, often classified as 10 to 34) for 67 percent of the population. These statistics are actually from America, which is not a representation of the world, but it still gives you an indication about the the size of a normal women.

The fashion industry transition is still in the early phases, but fashion brands can realize substantial benefits by featuring larger models without labeling them as “plus-size”. About 10 years ago this was unseen. Finding clothes for common (not plus-size) women was also very difficult, but now you have tons of fashion brands that started to notice this niche in the market. With the emergence of social media you also see more websites, blogs and pages covering this niche. Stores locally and online are popping up everywhere. Still now, the buying public is ahead of the industry, and women are responding eagerly to the sight of models who look like real people.

To celebrate the fact that this industry is growing and common women is finally getting almost the same choices as an size 0,  we put together a gallery of what could be trendy this summer of 2016. As someone from the Caribbean, summer fashion make no sense to us as the whole year is summer:
