Watermelon Red Berries & Banana Smoothie

Watermelon Red Berries & Banana Smoothie

About the benefits of the ingredients

This smoothie is an excellent waker upper. Have this with your breakfast to give yourself the necessary natural energy to go through your morning. Strange enough our inspiration came this time from the look of a red ale beer in a glass. Unlike the beer though, this beverage is very healthy.

The raspberries and strawberries contain strong antioxidants such as Vitamin C. Separately raspberries contain a good amount of quercetin and gallic acid that fight against cancer, heart and circulatory disease and age-related decline. They are high in ellagic acid, a known chemopreventative, and have been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. Watermelon has been added to give this smoothie some extra nutrients. It has a significant levels of vitamins A, B6 and C, lots of lycopene, antioxidants and amino acids. There's even a modest amount of potassium in watermelon. For the top layer we included banana and chai seeds. Bananas, like watermelon, are a very good source of vitamin B6, vitamin C, and potassium. Bananas are further a good source of manganese, dietary fiber, biotin, and copper.  Copper is an interesting mineral and we want to include this time some additional information about copper, because normally you don't hear much about its health benefits. Copper is a key mineral in many different body systems. It is central to building strong tissue, maintaining blood volume, and producing energy in your cells. According to www.whfoods.com; "for all its critical importance, you don't have much copper in your body—barely more than the amount found in a single penny. And those pennies in your pocket are only 2.5% copper by weight."
