Some of us probably has gone over board in the the last few weeks of the Christmas and New Year festivities. This is the time you permit yourself to eat all you can eat or drink all you can drink. Is the time to meet friends you don’t get the chance to see during the year. Time you organize dinners and drinks just to bring your family and friends together for lots of food, drinks and long chats. This is all good, but we tend to put allot of unhealthy stuff in our body during this time.
Now all this is over it is time to start with a detox, but in this case we will not take the route of laxatives. Ooh no, this is/was a nasty way to detox. I don’t even want to think about the experience, the mess. Not all of us remember this, but there was a time that this was the only way according to our elders. You had to do this at least once a year. Well this is ancient history now as we have a more delicious way to detox now.
Smoothies are now an alternative and a delicious one to add to our daily routine. Before we take this any further what is detox? According to the Cambridge Dictionary detox is a period when you stop taking unhealthy or harmful foods, drinks, or drugs into your body for a period of time, in order to improve your health.
Now back to our topic. Smoothies can help you get rid of the unhealthy substances in your body, and while doing this you are also getting vitamins and minerals your body needs to function at its best.
In the coming weeks I am going to provide you every week with a recipe plus its nutritional facts. This is for you to get an idea the benefits you are getting by getting that particular smoothie.
This first recipe we are going to provide you with contains a wide variety of antioxidant, anti-inflammatory phytonutrients, micronutrients, dietary fiber, essential fatty acid alpha-linolenic acid (also known as ALA or omega-3), including a high value of vitamin A and C.
What’s the Deal with Antioxidants?
Antioxidants are consistently linked with health benefits ranging from cancer prevention to heart disease prevention, to anti-inflammatory properties.
